At the Steps

rainwoman

She meanders through the streets, walking
through water, no path before her feet.
He sees her at the steps; sees foiled dreams,
tragedies, lips that are quick to smile.

Her lingering gaze catches his.

He sees the ghosts of darker days clutching at her wrists,
clawing scarred skin,

despite this
he still asks for her name.
